Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 August 2026
Skipper AI is a trade name of J.C. Skipper LLC, based in Boston, Massachusetts. This policy explains what personal data we collect through skipperai.llc and our client portal, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it.
The short version. We have deliberately kept this site light. We set no cookies. We run no advertising. We never sell your data. Nothing here follows you to other websites. There is no profile of you being built. Our only measurement is Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless and aggregate only, described below. The other outside services that see anything are our web host, our font and booking providers, and the two systems behind our client portal, all named below.
We store a single flag in your browser's session storage so the opening animation doesn't replay while you're on the site. It identifies nothing, and your browser clears it when you close the tab.
What we collect on the public site
Hosting. Our site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel receives your IP address in order to serve you the page, and records it in standard server logs. Vercel acts as our data processor.
Site analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how this site is used. It is cookieless: it sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Vercel derives a temporary identifier from your request as a hash, which cannot be traced back to you, and discards it after 24 hours. What we see is aggregate counts only: which pages were viewed and when, the site that referred you, your approximate location down to city level, and your device type, operating system, and browser. No profile of you is built and nothing follows you to other websites. This runs on our public pages only; the client portal is deliberately excluded and is not measured. Vercel processes this data on our behalf as our data processor. We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding how our site is used.
Your approximate location on the page. When you load our site, your IP address is sent to ipapi.co, or to ipwho.is if that service is unavailable, so we can display the city you are visiting from as part of the page. Your IP address is personal data under GDPR. We rely on our legitimate interest in presenting a relevant experience to visitors. We do not store it and we do not link it to you.
Font delivery. Our pages load typefaces from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address and browser information when the fonts are requested. This is necessary for the site to render as designed, and we rely on our legitimate interest in a functioning website. Google's handling of that data is governed by Google's privacy policy.
Booking a call. If you book a consultation, the "Book a Call" link opens a booking page hosted by Google Calendar Appointments in a new tab. Nothing from that page runs on our site. When you submit it you give Google, and us, your name, your email address, and anything else you choose to enter. We use this to schedule and hold the meeting you asked for, and to follow up about it. The legal basis is performance of a contract, or steps taken at your request before entering one. Google processes this on our behalf as a data processor.
Job applications. If you apply for a role, you send your résumé and covering message to op@skipperai.llc. That email, and anything attached to it, is stored in our Google Workspace account. We use it solely to assess your application and to contact you about it. The legal basis is steps taken at your request before entering a contract, and our legitimate interest in recruiting.
Emails you send us. If you contact us directly, we keep the correspondence so we can reply and maintain a record of the conversation.
The client portal
Clients we work with under contract have access to a private portal, opened with a passcode.
Unlock attempts. Every attempt to open a portal is logged, including the IP address it came from and whether it succeeded, so that we can detect and slow down anyone trying to guess a passcode. We rely on our legitimate interest in protecting client material from unauthorised access.
Portal contents. The portal holds documents and a project timeline for each client, which may name the people involved in the work. This is held on our behalf by Supabase and Atlassian, who act as our data processors. How we handle client material is governed in more detail by our agreement with each client.
International transfers. Our processors operate outside the United Kingdom and European Economic Area. Every transfer is covered by the safeguards in that provider's data processing agreement, which incorporate the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. Where a provider stores data in a country covered by a European Commission adequacy decision, we rely on that in addition.
Who else sees your data
We do not sell personal data, and we never will. We do not share it for advertising.
The only third parties who receive it are the service providers named above: Vercel (hosting and Vercel Web Analytics), ipapi.co and ipwho.is (location display), Google (fonts, booking, and email), Supabase (portal documents and records), and Atlassian (the portal timeline). Each processes it only to deliver the specific function described.
We may also disclose personal data where we are legally required to.
How long we keep it

|---|---|
| IP address sent for the location display | Not stored. Used in the moment and discarded. |
| Web server logs | Retained by Vercel according to its standard log retention. |
| Analytics data | Aggregate only; we hold no personal data. The temporary identifier Vercel derives from your request is discarded after 24 hours. Vercel retains the aggregates per its plan terms. |
| Portal unlock attempts, including IP address | 90 days, then deleted |
| Portal documents and timeline | For the duration of the engagement and at least 3 months afterwards. How much longer is set by our agreement with each client. |
| Booking details | 24 months after the meeting, then deleted |
| Job applications | 12 months after the role closes, unless you ask us to keep you on file |
| Email correspondence | 36 months, in line with normal business records |
